Neck and neck with James Norton at 3/1, Hardy is the bookies’ favourite to replace Craig after James Bond 25.
But what exactly would the Hollywood star look like as 007?
Well Fandom have put together a convincing poster of Hardy as Bond, looking both suave and lethal.
The mock-up sees the 40-year-old starring in a film called Never Dream Of Dying.
The poster features three pictures of Hardy holding different guns, appearing very well-dressed, and quite honestly looking very much the part.
And it’s not just the fans who think so, with former Bond Pierce Brosnan speaking out of his support for the star to replace Craig.
Last week, he said: “Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond. He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man.
“He will do the next movie, and then I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond.”
On April Fools Day this year Express.co.uk ran a prank story saying Hardy had been announced as Craig’s replacement.
Amusingly Hardy himself posted a picture from the article on his Instagram, playing along with the gag somewhat.
Hardy wrote: “Dammit I was in my tux and on the runway. Gtg… no drama. RTB. Headed back to NOLA stood down 19.”
And naturally this further confused his fans, with some assuming he’d actually been cast as James Bond.
Back in reality Craig will shoot his fifth and final 007 movie, Bond 25, at Pinewood Studios from December 3 this year.
The film, which will be directed by Danny Boyle, has a release date of October 26, 2019 in the UK.
But perhaps after that Hardy will take up the license to kill in time for the franchise’s 60th anniversary in 2022.
