Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart are each “it girls” in their own right. In the new Lizzie movie, the pair comes together to form an unbreakable bond. Lizzie tells the true story of a woman best remembered for murder but seeks to show another dimension, albeit imagined, to her life. You can watch the new trailer exclusively here at Express.co.uk

What is the Lizzie movie release date?

Lizzie is out in UK cinemas on December 14, 2018.

The film worked its way through the festival circuit, from Sundance to Toronto.

But Lizzie has been in the works for many years, initially set to run as a series produced by HBO.

When the American network Lifetime brought out its own Lizzie Borden Chronicles (starring Cristina Ricci), HBO scrapped the project and Sevigny bought back the rights.

The actress feared the film would never be produced.

Then in 2015 Lizzie finally found a home and Sevigny a co-star in Kristen Stewart.

What is the Lizzie movie plot?

Lizzie (Sevigny) is a social outcast, unmarred at 32, and is trapped under her austere, domineering father’s control.

Then, a young Irish maid desperate for work is hired by the Bordens.

The maid, Bridget Sullivan (Stewart), comes to live with the family and Lizzie finds in her a kindred spirit.

The official plot synopsis adds: “A chance intimacy blossoms into a wicked plan, and a dark, unsettling end.”

Who is in the cast of Lizzie?

Chloë Sevigny stars as the eponymous Lizzie Borden.

Kristen Stewart plays the maid and Lizzie’s eventual lover, Bridget Sullivan.

Kim Dickens (Fear The Walking Dead) plays Emma Borden, Lizzie’s sister.

Jamey Sheridan (Homeland) portrays the patriarch of the household, Andrew Borden.

Fiona Shaw plays Emma and Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby Borden.

Jay Huguley (The Walking Dead) plays William Henry Moody, the prosecutor.

Jeff Perry (Scandal) plays Lizzie’s defence attorney, Andrew Jennings.

Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story) plays a man named John Morse.

Is there a trailer for Lizzie?

Yes, and it’s only available here at Express.co.uk.

The trailer shows the blossoming relationship between Lizzie and Bridgitte.

It also gives a glimpse into the stern household Mr Borden ran, and the abuse he inflicted on the women who lived there.
