Thiem previews French Open final

Dominic Thiem says he has a plan to stop Rafael Nadal in the French Open final today.

“I know how to play against him. I have a plan,” he said.

“If it’s going to be him on Sunday, I will try everything that my plan also going to work out a little bit here and not only in Madrid or in Rome.

“If I want to beat him, I have to play that way like I did in Rome and in Madrid.

“But I’m also aware that here it’s tougher. He likes the conditions more here than in Madrid, for sure. Best of five is also different story.

“I think also a good thing is that I faced him already twice here.”

Nadal previews French Open final

Rafael Nadal admits he was “suffering” in his semi-final win over Juan Martin del Potro – but refused to let it show.

“I am in a positive way always on court,” Nadal said.

“Today in the first set, for example, I was not playing great, was suffering because he was playing better than me.

“I think, and I didn’t put not one bad face.

“I was just focused and try to hold the situation and just trying to be positive on every point, no?

“For me, the motivation to play here always is high, high as possible.

“But for me, every tournament, I believe that there is chances, limited chances in your career. So when I had the chances, I just tried to convert.

“Then you lose, you lose, but I gonna play with my highest passion and love for the game and for the sport to try to have success.

“I lost a lot of opportunities for injuries, and I know the years are going quick (smiling).

“So there is not 10 more chances to keep playing here.

“So I just enjoy the fact that I am here again.”
